Welcome to Learning Support
The Learning Support Department provides support for students with additional needs across all key stages to enable them to access the curriculum and realise their potential. We have specialist knowledge for all areas of need including;
- ASD – Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
- AUT – Autism.
- BESD – Behavioral Emotional and Social Disorder.
- EAL – English as an Additional Language.
- HI – Hearing Impairment
- PI – Physical Impairment.
- SPLD - Specific Learning Difficulties - Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia
- VI – Visual Impairment.
Most of our support is classroom based but at times, when appropriate, students may receive additional support within the department and work with specialist staff.
The Learning Support Department is situated at the heart of the school next to the Learning Resource Centre where it promotes and provides a warm, friendly and inclusive environment. We are open to all students within the school for support with Independent Learning Projects (ILP’s), coursework revision etc and deliver One – One or small group support for help with numeracy, literacy, speech and language programmes when deemed appropriate.
The Learning Support Department is open before school (8pm) at break, lunchtimes and after school by prior arrangement.
Some KS4 students attend North Warwickshire and Hinckley College for one day per week on vocational courses such as;
- Hair and Beauty
- Small animal care
- Motor vehicle,
to name a few, and are supervised by the College Link Co-ordinator.As extra support these students receive General Study lessons within the department to catch up with any work missed.
The department is connected to the Anker Valley Partnership which provides help and support with the transition from Primary to Senior school for both students and families.
We also provide support for students taking examinations which may be in the form of scribes (writers), readers, and transcriptions (re writing words or parts of words on an exam paper where handwriting is illegible)
